I was a fan of the Sarah Connor Chronicles when it originally aired although I didn't get this in depth into it. They definitely gave a depth to both Sarah and John in a way that didn't happen in the original movies, having looked back at those recently. It was very solid.
I personally think that, in terms of writing, TSCC is the best incarnation of Terminator available. It's also the only property after T2 that had any idea of what to do with John Connor as a character. There's a lot to talk about with this series, esp. once I get to S2.
Yes, I think more than anything it convinced me of the importance of John Connor and his relationship with his mother. In T2, he kinda got over the fact that his mother abandoned him too quickly. The show managed to make it much more believable. Didn’t love the attempts to make John irrelevant in the future sequels.
