Meanwhile ..‘The Keep’. Paramount cut around 30 minutes of the film without permission from Michael Mann.

I’ve written about The Keep for Taste of Cinema, though from what I’ve gathered Mann was ordered to make the cuts himself and complied as he did not have final cut on this movie.

That's a shame. I will take a look at your article, thanks.

If you have any insight, I'm dying to know - I know Mann not only re-cuts his movie for every format, but will use CGI to smooth over things - with all the other things he changes, why does he leave the jump cuts in? Like, the one with Lecktor in his cell on the phone, the camera's right on his face, and Mann will jump cut, I presume to maintain performance. I recently saw a newer version screened at the Egyptian in L.A., and the jump cuts were still included. Any notion why he doesn't use CGI to smooth those jumps out? I assume he likes having them there?

Sorry, afraid I don’t have any insight into that. I never actually noticed him use CGI before! Maybe he’s never needed to in Manhunter’s case. I’m personally curious, as to what’s up with the colors of the opening scene and credits.
