Excellent analysis. I found the second game to be quite long, so with the last chapters, I wanted to finish it already. But you're probably right, the Ragnarok could have been more epic. One other annoyance for me was being told what to do right away when it came to environmental puzzles. Otherwise, the story is compelling, the relationship between Kratos and Atreus powerful, the way they showed their growth too.

I enjoyed the length, myself. I used to love long JRPGs a la FF7, so I'm happy to see AAA games of similar length and scope appear on contemporary consoles. Loved the Kratos/Atreus relationship here though Kratos' voice seemed off sometimes, a little too hoarse (possibly because Chris Judge was still sick when recording his lines).

That makes sense! I was actually engaged with The Last of Us games and Death Stranding. They're quite long too. But maybe with God of War, I'm more compelled by the story over the action parts. It's not something I normally play, but the story really pulled me in. Yes, he may have still been feeling off, poor dear.

I know nothing about this but found your look at the narrative structure fascinating!

Also like the nerfing explanation.

Thanks for such a well documented analysis.
